Raise the banner of God

It has been such a blessing to study bible chapter by chapter from Genesis on Fridays since four years ago. The word of God itself has power. That is something we just simply believed, experienced and will continue to apply to my life.

I was touched by Psalms 60 when we were taught to raise the banner of God by prayer, by testifying the work of God, and by showing Christ in us. Just as in a battle the raising of the banner boosts the morale, lifting God up in my life also encourages me in my daily spiritual fight. Knowing by faith the victory God has given us through Jesus, I can boldly take my territory as each tribe of Israel conquered their own land. I don’t need to feel weak, for now I am free from any bondage that Satan tried hard to put on me, from the pressure of feeling that I have to do something, to have a good husband, to have children, to have a good career, to have this and that. What else can I fear if I am no longer afraid of losing anything in this world? “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6-7, Hebrews 13:6)

I gradually realize that It is because of grace I am compelled to read the word of God, to live for Him, to offer myself as living sacrifices, not by human persuasion, but by the touch of the Holy Spirit and the power of God I am striving to live my life as Christ lived. How can I not? He died for me and saved me from the old life that I lived before. I did not understand how Lot could easily believe the two messengers regarding the destruction of Sodom and left his home and all the properties just like that, until one day the Spirit hit me about the hunger of the needy. Lot would not believe in the message unless he already saw the evilness and hopelessness of the city and had hunger to escape, as bible describes “Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)” (2 Peter 2:7). So when the message came, he immediately accepted and fled for his life. What did the angles say? “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain!” Consider what happened to Lot’s wife, who looked back and became a pillar of salt. I used to think it was such a small thing, only a look back, leading to such a severe punishment. But God’s word is true, since I have seen many people who casually went back to the world, from a small step, another, another, until one day they left church and never came back again. “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” There is no other way. God wants our whole heart.

Praise God!

A good practice of doing things by faith: )

faithRecently we have been talking a lot about the word “faith”, not only from the book of Job (Job said the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away after his first testing, then he said when God tested me, I will come forth as gold when he suffered for some time. This kind of tested faith is what God wanted from us) , but also from the book of Ephesians (Paul reminded us that we have so many spiritual blessings in Christ, but all these blessings we have to attain it by faith, and after having all these spiritual blessings we should live the life of high standard).

From all these studies, we see God’s teaching are so connected, the spirit is leading us to live a life with faith, with power. And this Friday, we changed our normal topic on Friday to how to apply faith in everything we do due to the spirit’s leading. We used personal examples to express how we could use our faith. It was really refreshing to us. Praise God that he always gives what we need to us. God is so good!

Today we had our evangelism event, during our prayer, we prayed that may we have faith in the Lord that no matter how many people coming to the event, we will be prepared to do God’s work and be a good testimony to each other. We were planned to talk about how can we get the faith, in the middle of the teaching, we noticed there is a Finnish guy standing in front of our door. Ying went out and talked to him and welcomed him to our church and he came in. Praise God!

We all welcomed him and we had a chance to tell him briefly about our church, gave testimony to him.And praise God the person is also willing to open up to us. He said he believes there is someone in control, but he doesn’t know God so much. We got a chance to pray for him later, and we prayed God can open his eyes to see Him. When he told us the reason why he was looking at our church and came in, we saw how amazing our God is! We never know how He leads someone to Him, but we only trust if we have faith in Him, we can be used by Him to preach his gospel and glorify Him.

This is really a good practice of doing things by faith! Praise God!

We are one body

There has been a week since website was launched. Just wanted to check the site once again, I saw the update of member’s sharing section by Hong. She testified God’s working in her in developing the site. It was encouraging to see the new her in Christ, who expresses in words in boldness and in truth, since as she mentioned in the sharing, she is not a talkative person by nature.

Interesting that she said she left many things undone in her life. I did not know her personally very well before we came to this church. But I believe what she said is true as God works in our weakness and glorifies himself. In the church, she is the strength to get things done, buying the white board, getting the recorder, making the new website, etc. I enjoyed her fruit when working in the Lord with her, who just quietly and peacefully serves with gentleness and submission. Whoever leads in the area, whether event organizing, or cooking, or cleaning, she just gives her best support without any complaint or grumble. Praise God the Spirit flows and I am being influenced and trying to imitate her in this area as she imitates Christ.

God is so good. He calls us to be in the church so that we can help each other in one’s strength. Individually we have weaknesses, but as a whole body, we can be strong and show the manifold wisdom of God. We have been studying Ephesians that we are called to keep the unity God gave us. This unity is not only because of all the common things we have in Christ – one body, one hope, one Spirit, one faith, one God – but also because of our differences which make us need each other. Again what we experience matches what we learn. The word of God becomes true in our church.

What a blessing to be siteadmin :)

Want to share about the past few months developing this website since April. I can see God’s working with me in this task.

It links back that my first job after graduation was actually being a web developer for three years. Although I have changed my career path after that, it gave me the basic skills needed here for the church website. Praise God that He prepared me on the task.

I am not a talkative person by nature and don’t have desire to lead in any areas. If I look to my life, I have left many important things undone and being dragged here and there. Praise God that He used my weakness and many tasks assigned to me in church are done actually. I was able to communicate and organize people to contribute contents to the site and reach the go-live deadline. What can I say? I can only give the credit to God that He worked in me and people so things are done quickly.

There was a difficult period of time with struggling how to implementing some of the features to the site. Development was freezing for few weeks. Didn’t want to talk to people about it but sat in front of laptop during nights to figure things out. Finally I prayed to God that “Please help me to succeed on this one, Lord. I want to get it done so I can move on to next task what you will give me.”  After that night, I got hints out of nowhere and implemented the feature quickly. After that point, it has been very smooth. Praise God for His guidance.

Thanks to sisters and brothers efforts together, we get our new website now in place. I am taught through this experience that God is with us in this church, as we are willing to obey and serve Him with diligence. It is never about what we can do but offering ourselves to Him. He can use us and make us succeed in the area we serve. He has the ultimate control.
